I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
This book was everything and more. The writing is expressive and metaphoric, imagery you can see when you read, and the story tells of a family breaking and remaking the lives over and over again. This book could've been put in the Adult Literary sections because it really doesn't read as most YA books do.
“i gave up practically the whole world for you,” i tell him, walking through the front door of my own love story. “the sun, stars, ocean, trees, everything, i gave it all up for you.”
All the characters in this book were amazing. The secondary characters were right up there with MC's and they had their special moments. Oscar Ralph our nude model who made the twins see in different lights, Brian "The Ax" who changed the lives of both twins by playing Seven Minutes in Heaven with the wrong twin, and Guillermo who showed the secrets through carving of a woman coming out of a mans chest.
But, Jude and Noah brought it home with there flaws and how complex they were. Jude The Black Heart who thinks she's not meant for love stories and Noah who wants his but is like Cinderella waiting for his Prince Charming. These characters were like a roller coaster. You had the ups downs, curves, and turn arounds.
The romance in this story was heart retching and left you breathless. I can't pick a favorite between Noah and Brian or Jude and Oscar.
Noah and Brian seemed meant to be from the very start. Insta-love in this book was key for their relationships with each other. Their love was like speed pumps, Things would go fast then stop at the pump where Brian couldn't give up his baseball scholarship if his team found out he was gay. Then he left Noah hollow inside.
Jude and Oscar is puzzling one. They seemed like they were oil and water, sugar and vinegar, and then all of the sudden they were peanut butter and jelly. There unbelievably so wonderful for each other that kinda makes you feel all mushy inside.
“No hot guy should be allowed to have an English
accent and drive a motorcycle. Not to mention
wear the leather jacket or sport the cool shades.
Hot guys should be forced into footie pajamas.”
But please go read this book it so amazing! My review doesn't give the full and in-depth of how this book will change you. It's that good. It's going on my favorite books of all times list. So go read it, review it, and share it.
